A Bit About Dr. DeAnn Hurtado

DeAnn Hurtado is a professor of management and marketing in the Business and Public Services (BPS) division of Sinclair. Prior to joining Sinclair College, DeAnn worked for a decade with the NCR Corporation in International Customer Services and in several sales and sales support positions.  It was there that she learned to love international travel and the people all over the world that she grew to know and call “friends”. One of DeAnn’s biggest challenges and accomplishments was hosting an international high school student from Italy, who was so social that 250 people attended his graduation party – in DeAnn’s back yard – without providing an RSVP! That student is now a young man working in the Italian State Department as an Economics and Commerce diplomat, which comes as no surprise!

While at Sinclair, DeAnn parlayed her love of young people and international travel into many opportunities to lead several student study-abroad trips to Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Panama. During these years she also served as a chairperson for the Marketing/Management department and represented the division in the dean’s office as the Assistant Dean of BPS, working with faculty to provide classroom and professional development support for the division. But her experience as the Associate Dean for Sinclair’s campus in Mason was what drew her to the MADE Chamber, where she’s enjoyed working as the co-lead for the women’s leadership programs, as well as participating as a member of the board of directors.

It is a joy to live and work in Warren County and to participate in making the county THE place to live, work, and play. There’s no place better to grow than in Warren County with the people who make it such a special place to call “home”.

Why is being part of the Mason Deerfield Chamber important to you/your organization?

Like the sapphire, businesses and organizations have many facets. Which facet is your strength and why?

If your company culture, or personal persona, had to be summed up in five words or less, reflective of a
gemstone, what would they be?

Sinclair's mission is to "Find the need and endeavor to meet it". I think it's important to be an active participant in the communities in which you live and work. Without people who find the need and make an effort to make the community better, we'd not have the great neighborhoods and neighbors that we have in Warren County. I want to be part of the lives of the people with whom I work and live so that we can share the good and bad, and lighten the load for each other.

I like to be part of the action and get to know people. I think that makes me a natural "joiner", and I've worked hard to move communities and organizations forward.  I think that education is key to community and personal growth - so I spend my time and energy engaged in moving people forward through education.
