Mason Mile Rocks, 2026 Make the Mile Brick Finalist

Every gem has something that makes it shine. What would you say is your greatest strength or “sparkle,” and how does it show up in your/your organizations work?

Peg: Accessing the energy and talent in the community to help beautify THE MILE. Talent is everywhere !

Helen: Celebrating all things! I like to have fun and this community project is all about that. There are 26 rock beds throughout downtown designed to make you smile, feel good and walk away with a more positive feeling.

A Bit About Mason Mile Rocks

Mason Mile Rocks is a community-driven beautification initiative bringing color, creativity and connection to Downtown Mason. Launched by local residents Peg Elfers and Helen Fox, the project invites community members to paint and donate rocks that are displayed in gardens throughout the Mason Mile, encouraging residents and visitors to explore downtown, connect with one another and support local businesses.

What does being part of the Mason-Deerfield business community mean to you?

Share 2–3 fun facts about you/your organization that people in the MADE community might not know.

If your company culture, or personal persona, had to be summed up in five words or less, reflective of a
gemstone, what would they be?

Peg: I am a local resident who is frequent visitor, supporter and volunteer promoter of the downtown business community.

Helen: As a longtime Mason resident, I am committed to supporting the local business community. I feel strongly motivated to patronize area businesses and to be part of the reason our area continues to be a wonder place to work and live.

There are nearly 2,000 rocks on the Mason Mile rock beds that community members have painted as part of this project.

The dedicated young women of Cadet Troop 42575 helped us make this project successful in many ways including hosting rock painting parties, helping lay out the rocks, and infusing their youthful enthusiasm every time they represented Mason Mile Rocks.

The purple heart in front of the Looker house on East Main is our only residential rock garden.

Our two rock snakes, are named Pebbles and Rocco. They are looking for each other!

Peg: Multi-faceted, reflective and whimsical.
