Sarah once co-owned one of Cincinnati’s first coffee houses in the late 1970s — so yes, she knows a great cup of coffee when she sees one!

She has worked in nearly every type of library setting imaginable: school, university, commercial, specialized, public, and even a bookmobile for the State Library of Ohio.

With four degrees (BS, BA, MLS, MAM) — plus a summer session at Harvard — Sarah is a lifelong learner who brings that passion into her work.

She loves the outdoors and is a bit of a naturalist — she enjoys studying plants and trees, observing wildlife, and connecting with nature.

Beyond her career, she shares her love of reading in unique ways, even reading aloud regularly to a blind friend.
A Bit About Sarah Brown
Sarah Brown is the Director of Mason Public Library, where she combines her love of literature, lifelong learning, and community service to make the library a welcoming hub for all ages. With a background in library science and a strong commitment to public service, Sarah works tirelessly to connect patrons with resources that enrich their personal, educational, and professional lives. She is especially passionate about fostering a love of reading in children and teens, and often advises in the designing of engaging programs for them such as story hours, book clubs, and creative workshops that inspire young readers to explore new worlds through books.
In addition to her work with patrons of all ages, Sarah also supports adult learning and community engagement. She helps organize author visits, technology training sessions, and local history programs, ensuring that the library serves as a vital center for knowledge and cultural exchange. Known for her warm personality and approachable style, Sarah takes pride in helping patrons discover the right resources whether a novel to enjoy, research materials for a school project, or guidance on using digital tools.
Her colleagues and patrons alike appreciate her enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication to making the Mason Public Library more than just a place to borrow books it is a community gathering place where everyone feels welcome. Sarah believes strongly in the power of libraries to change lives and continues to advocate for expanding access to information, literacy, and lifelong learning opportunities.
She was born in Cleveland and grew up in the rural community of Hinckley, just south of Cleveland. In a family committed to public service. Her father an avid conservationist, her mother an RN having taught nursing at Case Western and a brother with a long career in the UN’s food agricultural programs. While attending colleges in Ohio, Missouri, and a brief summer session at Harvard, she was able to earn a BS, BA, MLS and MAM. Her career has taken her through many and varied library settings. School, university, commercial, specialized, public and bookmobile for the State Library of Ohio.
In her time away from work she enjoys visiting with friends and family, travel, reading to a blind friend and just being out of doors studying plants and trees and observing wildlife. Cooking and collecting cookbooks are also some favorite pastimes having been a part owner of one of the first coffee houses in Cincinnati during the late ‘70s. Yes, she does love a great cup of coffee!
