Shine Like Sable

2025 Non-Profit of the Year Finalist

MADE Chamber & Community Involvement:

Shine Like Sable was established in 2019 after the loss of our daughter, Sable Gibson. She was very passionate about food insecurity so we thought the best way to honor her legacy was to carry that on within our Mason community. We provide weekend food for students within the whole district. We worked closely with Joshua’s Place and Comet Cupboard to feed appropriately 900 children each month, who wouldn’t have food on the weekends otherwise. In addition to the weekend food, we fund programs like Community Holiday Help-which took care of 998 students this past year at Christmas time… providing them with gifts as well as meals for the entire winter break. In addition to food insecurity within the schools, we have also provided three service dogs for MECC. Gibson, Shiner & Bling! We are always looking for a need with an our community whether it be in the area of food insecurity or just a basic need within our schools. We love this community and we love our schools so we are always looking for ways to help and it’s just an added bonus that we get to share about Sable along the way!

A Bit About Shine Like Sable

Shine Like Sable honors the memory of Sable Paige Gibson. Our primary focus is paying it forward with kindness just like Sable so often did. Our mission includes providing weekend food packs to children in need in the Mason school district (currently providing over 900 “Shine Packs” each month), supporting our teachers and local schools, Children’s Hospital, as well as local families in need.

Why is being part of the Mason Deerfield Chamber important to you/your organization?

Like the amethyst, businesses and organizations have many facets. Which facet is your strength and why?

If your company culture, or personal persona, had to be summed up in five words or less, reflective of a
gemstone, what would they be?

Being a part of the MADE Chamber is important to us because of our love for this community. We are always looking for ways to connect to others in Mason. We love the way they are so passionate about our organization and the other organizations within this community.

We feel like Shine Like Sable is the strongest in the area of building relationships. We have been a part of this community for 27 years so we know a lot of people. We’ve
gotten to know even more people over the last six years since forming Shine Like Sable. The friendships and relationships we had before losing Sable have grown stronger and we have met so many amazing people over the last several years on this healing journey that have helped our mission become even stronger. People are passionate about food insecurity, but so many people just don’t know it exists. We live in this Mason bubble so most people in this community aren’t aware of the need. When we started Shine Like Sable, our goal was to SHINE a light on that need! It’s through our relationships with the people that we have been successful in this area. We love this community and love the people in it. They have done nothing but love and support us and help us to be the strongest we can be.
